The process of a decision.
Ruth 1:6-The Message.
One day she
got herself together, she and her two daughters-in-law, to leave the
country of Moab and set out for home.
It’s decision time. So much in life hinges on the decisions we make. We face options every day and every moment of our lives. Left, right, forward, backward. Do I go, do I wait? Should I do it alone, or should I take someone with me? How much, how far? It is an endless task. Nothing that we do is independent of our decisions. Even those things over which we have no control require decisions on our part. Others make decisions for us. They make decisions for themselves that ultimately affect us as well. Making decisions is part of being human.
Some decisions are insignificant. Others, not so much, but
they are normal. We rarely give them much thought. Others, however, can alter
our lives and the lives of those around us. Those we love the most. Some
decisions can even change history.
Some decisions are easy. They are obvious. Actually, we
barely think about them. They are second nature. Others, not so much. Others
require thinking, lots of thinking; short-term and long-term consequences that
we had not thought about. Some are even eternal. They will bring anxiety, fear,
and even depression if we are not careful. We will be looking back on them for
years to come. Therapists will have a field day with some of our ill-fated
decisions.
But are there guidelines? If so, what are they? How do we
make sure our decisions will be the right ones if we don’t have a crystal ball
to see into the future? What decisions will be more important? Valid questions,
are they not?
While, in fact, we do not have a crystal ball to see into
the future, there is a way to guide our decision process. There are resources
that God has provided us to make sure that no matter what our decisions are,
and what consequences they bring, they will ultimately result in our benefit. The
Holy Spirit, the Word of God, wise, godly counsel. That is, provided that we
have made the most important one of all: the decision for Christ.
One such decision changed the course of history long before
Jesus was even born. One
day she got herself together, she and her two daughters-in-law, to leave
the country of Moab and set out for home. (Ruth 1:6-The Message).
What
decisions are waiting for you to be made? Are you ready to allow the Holy
Spirit and the Word of God to take you to the rivers of living water that await
those who choose Him? Are you ready to change the course of history, your history?
Come, #getittogethergirl It’s decision time. It’s time to go home!
Father, as
I embark on this journey, let me hear Your voice. Take away the distractions,
the sounds and sights around me that muffle your voice and make me deaf to your
words. Make clear to me the decisions that I need to make, whichever they may
be, and bring me to a place of communion with you so I can receive all the
grace that you have in store for me. I pray that your grace fills me and
overflows from me, and that my thoughts and my words reflect your thoughts and
your words. Thank you for your work on the cross that I fully embrace at this
time. Thank you for your resurrection that allows me to walk in fullness of
life. And thank you for the Holy Spirit, who guides me in my day-to-day life.
May every decision that I make hereon be a result of my walk with you. In
Jesus’ name. Amen.
My reflections:
“I
will arise and go to my father.”
Luke
15:18
