Work that God has prepared.
Ruth 2:3b
“…she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to
Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech.”
Work that God has prepared.
Godincidences. I heard that word years ago from a good friend
who said, “There are no coincidences, only Godincidences.” After that, I have
heard it more and more. It is now a cliché. Yet true, nevertheless. What were
the odds that Ruth would end up in the part of the field that belonged to Boaz?
Did she Google it? Did she ask her neighbors for recommendations on a good
field to glean in? No. It wasn’t by chance that she went there. Her work had
already been designed. Her road had already been prepared for her in the
heavenlies.
Have you ever stopped to ponder on some of the seemingly
little things that come your way? A fork in the road, perhaps? A distraction
from what you were doing? An obstacle that stops you in your tracks? Or simply an
event that seems small and insignificant. You don’t think about it much. You
simply go about your day. Then, after, maybe much later, you realize that it was
not a simple event. That moment had much greater implications. That job you saw
on Indeed, that guy you casually met at the grocery store. That person you
helped cross the street. That moment changed your life. It turned it around.
Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
Ruth just went about her day, looking for a place to work. She
came to that field. It looked nice so she stopped there. Another version puts
it this way, “As it turned out…” As it turned out? Maybe. Coincidence? As we
keep on reading, we know it wasn’t. God had a much greater plan in mind for her.
She didn’t know it, but God had already decided to honor her faithfulness.
Are you “looking for a place to glean?” Are you waiting for a
grand event that will turn your life around? Stop. Savor the little moments. Go
about your life. God’s got you. He will direct your path in ways that you will
only be able to see in retrospect. Be faithful. Go about your life daily. Stop
in that field. Don’t overthink it. #getittogethergirl. Your road has
already been prepared in the heavenlies, and there are no coincidences. Only
Godincidences.
Father, I understand that nothing that happens in my life is
a coincidence. I know that you go before me, guiding me, preparing the way for
me. I know that all the hairs on my head have been counted and that you are in
my corner. I know that I don’t have to trust my own understanding because you
always know better, and even when things don’t seem important, or when things
come my way that are not how I think they should be, I can trust that you have
a much greater plan for me, and I will see it unfold at its appointed time.
Keep me faithful to you, Lord. Don’t let me go to the right or to the left, but
rather, open my eyes so that I continue following your lead. In Jesus’ name,
amen.
My reflections:
“Why, even
the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not.”
Luke 12:7
