Day 36

Ruth 4:15

“He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.”

Rewards that bring provision.

Years ago, we had a precarious financial situation at home. The country’s economy, along with other factors outside our control, all contributed to the fall of our small business. We had worked hard for that business and put a lot of sweat into it since we got married. Now, we had two small children, had recently purchased a home, and all of a sudden, we had no salary, no source of income, and we didn’t know where the money would come from to pay the mortgage. Our car had been repossessed, and I remember as if it were yesterday, how my husband gave our employee the last $800 in our savings account, for his salary, as required by law. That day, in that small office that we now had to evacuate, I thought the world was falling on me.

All of a sudden, the phone rang. A company that had received my husband’s resume (which I had sent randomly with a dozen others in expectation of something like this) wanted to interview him for a possible position. It turned out to be a large company that hired him the following week. Five minutes later, there was another call. It was a competing company that wanted to buy his client list.

During the days before, we had prayed, we had cried, we had questioned God. But secretly, we never failed to trust that, in his mercy, He would get us out of that crunch. And so it was. At the most critical moment, God not only showed up, He showed off. My husband was never unemployed, there was food on our table, and we lived in that house for thirty more years.

God rewards his children. “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.” (Psalm 37:25). God is not a capricious god. He does not forsake his children. Have you been faithful? He will reward you. Have you kept his word? He will reward you. Have you run the race? He will reward you. And his reward will not only bring you spiritual benefits, but emotional and physical benefits as well. Will they look like what you expected? Will they be what you thought they should be? Maybe. Maybe not. Only God knows. So, #getittogethergirl. You are royalty, and royalty does not go hungry. Your reward will bring you provision, for you and your family, so that your future is one of blessing and not hunger.

Father, thank you for your provision, which never fails. Thank you for your daily manna. Don’t let me complain, like Israel did, and have contempt for it because it looks the same day after day. Help me believe that you have provided what I need. I don’t need riches, God, only to know that you are near and that your provision is always near. Thank you again, because I know that you are my Gd, my protector, my provider, and my healer. In Jesus’ name, amen.

My reflection:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
